RESUMEN DEL LIBRO: As described in his preserved extract - journal, Abel Tasman had two ships under his command during his memorable voyage to the misterious Southlands in 1642: the yacht Heemkerck and the fluyt Zeehaen. According to historian Peter Sigmond, head of the department of Dutch History of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, these ships cn be placed on the same rank as ships as Santa Maria, the Golden Hind and the Endeavour. Ab Hoving, head of the restoration department working for Sigmond, built models of these ships. Cor Emke has recorded the entire (experimental) building process on CAD drawings. These drawings are not only printed but also recorded on CD - Rom. This CD - Rom enables the model builder to examine and print each part of the ship in a scale selected by himself. In the book to which the CD - Rom belongs, Peter Sigmond describes the historical background of Tasman's expedition. Original illustrations from Tasman's journal, and paintings and pictures of yachts and fluyts illustrate the narrative. The book also offers an analysis of seventeenth - century ship - building: an account how the models were built; a tipology of the ships Tasman sailed with a lot of information from which anyone interested can make his own choice in order to construct his model. This box contains a book (Dutch, English or German), 40 printed drawings scale 1:75 and a CD - Rom. The CD - Rom enables you to view, zoom and pan the drawings on the computer drawings on the computer screen and print them at scale different from those that are supplied with the book. The dimensions charts can be printed with the same scale dimensions at the drawings. The CD - ROM also contains a number of illustrations and photographs of models. The CD - ROM has threelanguage modules: Dutch, English and German. The illustrations on the CD - ROM are in BMP format and can be viewed with the program FLEXVIEW, a freeware sotfware program installed on the CD - ROM. The drawings are PLT/HPGL format and are stored in the following scales: 1:50; 1:87 - 5; 1:100 and 1:150. The drawings can be viewed and printed with the program ViewCompanion. A special version of this program is installed on the CD - ROM. The dimension charts can be viewed and printed with Microsoft Excel or the Excel Viewer supplied.

En 1642, por encargo de la Compañía Holandesa de las Indias Orientales, el holandés Abel Tasman partió de Batavia en la actual Indonesia para un viaje de exploración que le llevaría a descubrir la isla que lleva su nombre, en la parte Sur de Australia, y nueva Zelanda. La expedición estaba compuesta de dos barcos, el “yacht” Heemskerck ligero pero armado para defensa ante posibles enemigos, por ejemplo los españoles de Filipinas, y el “fluyt” Zeehaen, barco de carga. Tras más de dos meses de navegar a rumbo Sur sin encontrar tierra, la expedición viró al Este y después de varias semanas descubrió la isla de Tasmania, en honor a su descubridor, en la parte más meridional de Australia. La expedición continuó hacia el Este donde posteriormente descubrió el archipiélago de Nueva Zelanda. Al parecer, las instrucciones que Tasman tenía eran de haber navegado aún más al Sur antes de virar al Este, lo que le hubiera llevado a perderse en el Pacífico sin avistar ni Australia ni Nueva Zelanda. La presente obra es fruto de una investigación del Rijksmuseum de Amsterdam y recoge la historia y construcción de los dos barcos de Abel Tasman. Está diseñada pensando en los modelistas e incluye 40 planos a escala 1:75 así como un CD - ROM que permite visualizar estos planos, ampliarlos e imprimirlos a la escala deseada para acometer la construcción. Como describía Abel Tasman, en su diario de a bordo que se conserva, Abel Tasman tuvo dos buques bajo su mando durante su memorable viaje a las misteriosas tierras del sur en 1642: El yate Heemkerck y el Zeehaen. Con dibujos originales del diario de a bordo del propio Tasman y fotografías que ilustran el texto. El libro ofrece además un análisis de la construcción naval del siglo XVII e información de interés para construir los modelos. Esta caja contiene un libro en tres idiomas: Holandés, Inglés y Alemán, 40 dibujos impresos a escala 1:75 y un CD - ROM. Con este CD - ROM, el lector, podrá ver suficientemente, realizar zoom y seguir a la cámara con los dibujos y colocarlos en la pantalla del ordenador, además de poder imprimirlos en otra escala diferente a la que aparecen en el libro. Dicho CD - ROM, igual que el libro, aparece en las tres lenguas. Las ilustraciones están en formato BMP y pueden ser vistas con el programa FLEXVIEW, ya instalado en el CD - ROM.
