Invincible, the super - cruiser, first of her type, was a revolutionary design, almost as far reaching in its significance as Dreadnought herself. Large, fast and powerfully gunned, she could overtake and destroy any enemy cruiser foolish enough to wander about the British routes. That was the concept. As a cruiser, she was a monster: at 17000 tons almost twice as big as her nearest German equivalent. At the time, she was the longest warship in the world, faster than any battleship, faster even the the fastest German liner. An she was the second most powerful warship in existence, with the ability to hurl more than four tons of high explosive at her foe every minute. Well could she bear the name of Invincible. Long, lean, ferociously, she was to be the unchallenged guardian of the trades routes. And her first action, she vindicated herself in that role. With her sister ship, Inflexible, she annihilated the German cruiser squadron Von Spee at the First World War on the Falklands. But, at the First World War went on, as a naval strategy evolved, Invincible and her sister battlecruisers were called upon to perform a different role in the context of the main fleet actions. Now they would be the scouting force, fast moving to locate enemy battle fleet, then lure it onto the guns battleships. And here their speed would not be sufficient compensation for the lack of armour that had been necessary to attain those extra knots. At Jutland, Invincible perished in dramatic style under a hail of shells, blowing up spectacularly and breaking in two. O fher ship's company, more than a thousand men, only six survived. This is the full story of that spelndid, but doomed, ship, from her controversial design to her tragic end. The author, has researched much unpublished archive material to discover the truth about her demise, and to tell accurate story of one of the wold's most significant warships.

Invencible, el super crucero, primero de su clase, fue un revolucionario diseño, llegando casi tan lejos como la importancia que alcanzó el Dreadnought. Largo, rápido y poderosamente armado, tenía la capacidad de poder destruir cualquier crucero enemigo que fuera lo bastante loco de enfrentarse a él en las rutas británicas. Ese fue el concepto. Como crucero, fue un monstruo: 17000 toneladas, más o menos el doble del crucero alemán, su más próximo equivalente. Fue el buque más largo en todo el mundo, más rápido que cualquier crucero, incluso que el más rápido trasatlántico alemán.
